About Me
Currently teaching English in Hong Kong, I am a Linguistics PhD student at National Taiwan University. My research interest includes pragmatics, sociolinguistics, language education, language and sport (particularly coaching discourse).
After graduation from MA in Language Studies at Hong Kong Baptist University, I started my English teaching career. To challenge myself and explore related academic disciplines, I then studied postgraduate degrees in Communication Studies and Education in Taiwan while teaching at different tertiary institutions in Hong Kong at the same time. They all give me inspiring thoughts and play important roles to my teaching and linguistics PhD now. Having experience in teaching schools at various levels in Hong Kong and Taiwan, I developed a curiosity about cultural differences and relative pedagogical approaches. I also worked as a research assistant, journal editorial assistant and translator during my stay in Taiwan.
On the other hand, my long time spent on volleyball as a school-athlete or credential coach has heavily shaped my personality and attitudes. The interaction (both verbal and non-verbal) between athletes and coaches, the tactics and strategies involved, biological and psychological backup for each movement etc. are all fascinating to me and now my worth exploring areas for further academic projects.

Being a registered English teacher in Hong Kong, I have worked for 3 primary schools and 4 secondary schools, as a substitute teacher, or after school tutor. I taught at 7 tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and Taiwan as a part-time lecturer, ranging from associate degrees to masters, focusing more on academic writing and presentation skills. I also taught adults under business settings, for IELTS courses.
Volleyball Coach
Sept 2004 - June 2018
It occupies most of my leisure time in the past. Having the coaching license in Hong Kong and Taiwan, I coached more than 10 secondary school teams in Hong Kong and 1 university team in Taiwan, both for boys and girls., and the players were usually novice. I also received the certificate of outstanding coach from the ministry of education in Taiwan.
Research Assistant
October 2013 - May 2016
Same as most research students, I worked as a research assistant for different projects, linguistics, literature, education and economics. Other than gathering data and literature, I also got chances to help editing journal papers from professors, format editing for a SSCI journal, and solving the complicated projects-related clerical work.
