About Me
I am a passionate educator and doctoral candidate in linguistics and education based in Hong Kong. My research interests revolve around education technology, language learning, and sports linguistics.
After completing my MA, I embarked on an English teaching career that led me to teach at various tertiary institutions in Hong Kong while pursuing postgraduate degrees in Communication Studies and Education in Taiwan. These experiences have played a crucial role in shaping my teaching and research, and have fuelled my curiosity about cultural differences and pedagogical approaches.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I have a deep interest in volleyball, having spent a considerable amount of time as a student-athlete and coach. The interactions between athletes and coaches, the tactics and strategies involved, and the biological and psychological underpinnings of each movement fascinate me and inspire me to explore these areas further in my academic projects.
During my time in Taiwan, I worked as a research assistant, journal editorial assistant, translator, and volleyball coach. I also had the opportunity to learn Southern Min from my friends, and am fluent in Cantonese, English, Mandarin, and basic Japanese.
My Experience
Background & Expertise
English Teacher
Sept 2010 - Present
As a registered English teacher in Hong Kong, I have honed my skills by working with students across various educational levels. In my previous positions, I have served as a substitute teacher and after-school tutor for three primary schools and four secondary schools. Additionally, I taught at seven tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and Taiwan as a part-time lecturer, where I focused on academic writing and presentation skills, catering to students ranging from associate to master degrees.
Volleyball Coach
Sept 2004 - June 2018
My passion for sports and coaching led me to become a volleyball coach, where I have coached more than ten secondary school teams in Hong Kong and one university team in Taiwan. I have received coaching licenses in both countries and have worked with players starting as novices. In recognition of my efforts, I received the certificate of outstanding coach from the Ministry of Education in Taiwan.
Research Assistant
October 2013 - May 2016
As a research assistant, I have worked on various linguistics, literature, education, and economics projects. Apart from gathering primary data and literature, I have assisted professors in editing journal papers, formatting edits for an SSCI journal, and solving complicated project-related ad-hoc work.

Never expect students to remember all the "knowledge" taught
but become critical and passionate about learning.
